Project Description

Hafnium

The use of hafnium can be broken down in to three sectors:

  • Superalloys (aerospace and non-aerospace)
  • Plasma arc welding
  • Nuclear applications

Added to high temperature and nickel-based super alloys, hafnium increases resistance to corrosion, particularly in cyclic thermal conditions. The metal’s high melt temperature also helps to strengthen grain boundaries, thereby, decreasing high temperature creep and increasing tensile strength.
